Workplace Relations

Master Builders provides its members with a full range of workplace relations services.

MBA is the major employer respondent to the National Building and Construction Industry Award, the leading award in the Building and Construction Industry and regularly appears in proceedings in the AIRC in relation to the award.

At a State and Territory level, the MBA offers members advice and representation in relation to:

  • Industrial disputes
  • Award conditions
  • Employment legislation, including workers compensation, annual and long service leave and discrimination
  • Enterprise agreements
  • Unfair dismissals
  • Apprenticeships
  • Site allowance claims
  • Redundancy,
  • Superannuation

Sources of advice include immediate telephone advice, representation in negotiation with unions, on-site audits, advocacy and preparation of documents.

MBA officers can also advise of recent developments and specific local industrial conditions.

MBA also represents its members' interests to Government. MBA is a member of the National Labour Consultative Council, the peak tripartite consultative body on industrial relations in Australia.


Workplace Relations Blueprint

Master Builders advocates a workplace relations system in which employer and employee parties are empowered to enter freely into appropriate and lawful workplace arrangements that suit the particular enterprise.

Working Together Master Builders' Workplace Relations Blueprint sets out five objectives and fourteen recommendations for the building and construction industry.

Occupational Health and Safety

Master Builders Australia supports the principle that all businesses and all employees have a basic duty of care to safeguard their own and others health and safety.

Master Builders' OH&S policies have been formulated to achieve two main objectives:

  1. improved building and construction industry OH&S performance,
  2. national, consistent OH&S arrangements in the establishment of an appropriate regulatory framework.

Building a Safer Future: Master Builders Occupational Health and Safety Policy Blueprint 2009-2015 sets out five outcomes and 26 recommendations to achieve these objectives. Download a copy of Building a Safer Future here.

Master Builders is committed to the National OH&S Strategy and to achieving the strategic priorities and targets in that strategy, including the more effective prevention of occupational disease.
