Kane Constructions are the National Master Commercial Builder of the Year

Geelong Library and Heritage Centre, the project that clinched them the prize

This multi-award winning, $45 million, nine level state-of-the-art facility is an absolutely worthy winner of this prestigous award.

A showcase of building and construction excellence, Kane Constructions (Kane) rose to the unique challenges of bringing the bespoke designed facility to life to provide a refreshed and updated community hub to the residents of Victoria's largest regional city.

Challenges included construction of the dome which distinguishes the building and a matrix of glass reinforced concrete cladding (Glass Fibre Reinforced - GRC) that required the installation of 550 panels including hexagon, pentagonal, facia and gutter panels.

The lightweight panels were manufactured off-site with a secondary steel sub frame and bolted onto to the primary steel structure to create the domed facade.

Kane has also delivered a great example of how to deliver a cutting edge modern building sensetively to the site and complimenting existing heritage buildings. The results are that the community benefits from Geelong Regional Library and Heritage Centre being a more vibrant of living history and the project has won its builder the nation's top building and construction award.
