The National Environment and Energy Efficiency Award Commercial Building Award 2016

Was won by Built for the refurbishment of 20 Martin Place in Sydney's CBD.

Always ambitious, Built's approach to this complex renovation of this 20 storey office tower showcases their committment to excellence and their integrated approach between building services and the facade was a big factor in them taking out this year's award.

Designed to exceed the NABERS (National Australian Built Environment Ratings System) 5 star energy rating,  Built was innovative in its approach to heating, ventilation and airconditioning (HVAC), facade delivery and lighting to maximise energy efficiency. They installed two cooling systems where they are needed, one to cool at the facade and the other too cool the central zone.

The latter was acheived through a low-temp VAV (variable air volume) system which was deployed  with 'perimeter active' chilled beams providing cooling at the facade. Long life LED lighting was installed and the re-use of the steel structure resulted in significant impact savings to the broader environment.

Overall, the project acheived a recycling rate in excess of 95 per cent making it a truly worthy winner of the National Environment and Energy Efficiency Commercial Building Award at the Master Builders Australia Excellence in Building and Construction Awards 2016.
