Leading NSW engineering contractor, Ward Civil & Environmental Engineering has received national recognition for its landmark Pittwater Bay Project.

The McCarrs Creek Road Upgrade – the first major project executed by the newly formed Northern Beaches Council - won the Toyota National Civil / Infrastructure Award under $25M Award at the National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards in Adelaide on Saturday night.

Works on the landmark project included reclamation of land at Church Point Reserve, construction of a new seawall, realignment of the existing McCarrs Creek Road and construction of a new multi-story cark park for local and Scotland Island residents.

Protection of the marine environment was a main focus and as such, construction works in and around the sensitive marine environment were well staged and planned to mitigate potential impacts.

According to Denita Wawn, CEO of Master Builders Australia “Ward achieved an outcome on the Pittwater Bay project that was well received by all stakeholders and the local community despite the project’s obvious design constraints.”

“Ward worked closely with Northern Beaches Council, the Environmental Protection Agency and Fisheries NSW to ensure compliance when working within Pittwater Bay,” Denita Wawn said.

“The project was completed to a high standard of safety, despite major challenges including working and using elevated work platforms over and around water, working around live HV electrical and optic fibre communications and completing high impact work adjacent to heritage structures.

“Ward are to be commended on their outstanding management of this difficult project,” Denita Wawn said.
